Objective: The aim of our study was to explore the correlation between theserum level of immunoglobulin and prostatitis-like symptoms, the amount of WBCin expressed prostatic secretion(EPS)among the Chinese male population ofFangchenggang aera in Guangxi province. Methods: In2009, Our Fangchenggang Area Male Health and ExaminationSurvey conducted the first follow-up and a total of4303male residents aged17-88years were invited to take part in the survey to complete the questionnaire, whichconsisted of the U.S.National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis inflammationsymptom index (NIH-CPSI),sociodemographics data, lifestyle factors.By uniformtraining of people obtained data including height, weight and blood pressure. Pumped blood fasting glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteincholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and serum levels of IgA, IgG, IgMwere measured. Prostate massage to obtain and accept EPS and counted the numberof WBC in EPS. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS(16.0) software. Results: We studied the523cases of health check-up subjects, includingprostatitis-like symptoms group of62subjects, non-prostatitis-like symptoms groupwas416subjects. Serum levels of IgA, IgG, IgM levels was no significant differencebetween the prostatitis-like symptoms group and the non-prostatitis-like symptomsgroup (P>0.05). In the total subjects, the group of prostatitis-like symptoms and thegroup of non-prostatitis-like symptoms, Serum levels of IgA, IgG, IgM and theWBC in EPS had no linear correlation; The total subjects in the binary logisticsregression analysis, after adjustment for age, exercise, education, Serum levels ofIgA, IgG, IgM and the occurring of prostatitis-like symptoms still had no significantassociation (P>0.05). In the group of prostatitis-like symptoms, Those with serumlevels of IgA between2.15-2.69g/L had significantly higher risk of having urinarysymptoms that are chassified as moderate or severe prostatitis-like symptoms(OR=2.65;95%CI=1.08~5.14). After adjusting for age, exercise, levels ofeducation, the effect still persistsed and OR values was increased. The risk of havingmoderate or severe prostatitis–like urinary symptoms increased with serum levels ofIgA(OR=2.73,95%CI=1.34-5.78;OR=2.67,95%CI=1.12-5.56).Conclusions: Our study showed that serum levels of IgA, IgG, IgM are unrelatedto the incidence of prostatitis-like symptoms in the Chinese male population, Serumlevels of IgA, IgG, IgM and the WBC in EPS not have a linear correlation, it was notsuitable as a diagnostic indicator of prostatitis. Elevated serum levels of IgAassociated with moderate or severe prostatitis-like urinary symptoms. The immuneresponse maybe involved in the disease process of prostatitis-like symptoms. Therefore, we should be more concerned prostatitis-like symptoms of patients in thefuture and conduct targeted immunotherapy.
