| Objective To detect the expression of Galectin-3and MMP-9in uroepithelium cellcarcinoma of bladder (BUCC) and normal vesical tissues, then to analyze the relationbetween the two tumor markers and the clinicopathological parameters of BUCC, and todiscuss the clinical significance of the expression of Galectin-3and MMP-9in theappearance, developing and prognosis of BUCC.Methods The expression of Galectin-3and MMP-9was examined by immunohistoche-mistry in67cases (17cases in T1,23cases in T2,20cases in T3,7cases in T4) ofBUCC and12cases of normal vesical tissues, and the microvessel density (MVD) ofBUCC were counted. The positive expression rates of Galectin-3and MMP-9werecompared via statistical analysis within different tumor sizes, pathological grades, clinical stages, lymphatic metastasis, recurrence and MVD, as well as age, gender andsurvival rates after operation of BUCC patients. Results The positive rates of Galectin-3and MMP-9in BUCC tissues were62.69%and73.13%, higher than normal vesical tissues (respectively16.67%and0.00%), and thedifferences were siginificant (P <0.05). The positive rates of the two markers werehigher in BUCC with higher pathological grades and clinical stages. They were higherin BUCC with lymphatic metastasis compared with those without, and higher inrecurrent patients compared with new-found ones. All the differences were significant(P <0.05). On the contrary, there were no differences in the positive rates of MMP-9inBUCC among different gender, ages and tumor sizes (P>0.05). The positive rate ofMMP-9in the BUCC tissues with positive expression of Galectin-3was higher than that with negative expression. Parallelly, the positive rate of Galectin-3in the BUCC tissueswith positive expression of MMP-9was higher than that with negative expression. Andthe positive expression of the two makers displays positive correlation (χ2=22.284, r=0.500, P <0.05). MVD was higher in the BUCC tissues with positive expression ofGalectin-3and MMP-9than that with negative expression, and the difference wassignificant (P <0.05). Five-year survival rate after operation of the patients with positiveexpression of Galectin-3and MMP-9was lower than that with negative expression, andthe difference was significant (P <0.05).Conclusion The expression of Galectin-3and MMP-9in BUCC are closely correlatedwith pathological grades, clinical stages, lymphatic metastasis and recurrence, andmaybe play roles in the appearance, developing and prognosis of BUCC, and theremaybe exist a certain kind of synergistic effect between the two tumor markers. Maybesome up-regulation effect exists for Galectin-3and MMP-9in terms of tumorangiogenesis, and this possibly contributes to further research of BUCC. In addition, theexpression of Galectin-3and MMP-9in BUCC are closely correlated with survival rateafter operation, and maybe become effective prognostic indicators for BUCC aftersurgery therapy. |
