PurposeTo detect the correlation of the expression and clinical significance of Ki-67, S100and GFAP to the pathological grading in the astrocytoma.Methods42cases of paraffin embedded human astrocytomas were selected from the archives of the department of pathology, Shanxi Cancer Hospital from January2009to December2013, including low grading (WHO grade Ⅱ)17and high grading (WHO grade III-IV)25cases. An immunohistochemical En Vision method was used to detect the expression of Ki-67, S100and GFAP.ResultsGFAP expression was94.1%(16/17) in low grade and92.0%(23/25) in high grade astrocytom. The total expression was92.9%(39/42). The difference was not significant between the low grade and high grade astrocytom (x2=0.68,P>0.05). S100expression was94.1%(16/17) in low grade and60.0%(15/25) in high grade astrocytom. The difference was significant between the low grade and high grade astrocytom (x2=6.093,P<0.05). Ki-67expression was3.88±2.87%in low grade and31.94+22.87%in high grade astrocytom. The difference was significant between the low grade and high grade astrocytom (Z=-4.329,P0<0.05).ConclusionsThe S-100and GFAP can be as the marks of astrocytoma for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. While the Ki-67can be as the mark of astrocytoma for the grade of malignancy.Ki-67can also supply important refer value for the judging the prognosis of patients with astrocytoma and efifectiveness of treatment in the clinic.
