Creative Misreading

Harold Bloom is one of the famous literary critics and theoreticians in American in the20th century. He receives a lot of praise in the field of literary theory because of his unique theoretical construction and critical practice. In the70s of20th century, Bloom advances the theory of misreading, which makes him famous in the world. As the context of cultural production, related to postcolonial and globalization, Harold Bloom’s theory of misreading cause our country theorists attention. The research has got some achievements, but our country theorists lack relevant research to Bloom’s misreading theory research. This paper tries to study the theory from the background of the misreading theory, the core concept of the misreading theory, the misreading theory in promoting the value of the text, etc.This research will be more comprehensive,and be put with the research of the China’s misreading theory together. The article will explore the value of misreading theory to the research of Chinese literature theory, and promote the development of the local theory. This paper mainly discussed from five parts:Chapter one is introduction. We will make a theoretical research to Bloom’s misreading theory, narrative the foreign and domestic research of the theory of misreading theory simply, analysis their attitudes and opinions, and make a summary. Overall, the domestic and foreign scholars have three main attitudes, support, neutral and against, the article will make a detailed narration.Chapter two discuss the origin of Bloom’s misreading theory,we will introduce Bloom briefly, and comb his theory development vein, so that the reader can understand the background and origin of the misreading theory.Chapter three is the introduction of the misreading theory. In the poetry history, the later generation poets comes late, so he may be affected by the senior poet’s repression and influence, and in a passive position, so it is difficult for them to make innovations. If the later generation poets want to make those poetry subsistence, they must struggle with the senior through misreading. Of course, the later generation poets own the creative great poetry is the result of misreading to the senior poetic. The misreading theory is not only applied to poetry field, but also apply to other forms of literature.Chapter four relate to misreading theory and the value of proliferation. The Bloom’s misreading theory become a kind of strategy and mean, it stresses the misreading, criticism, modifications and innovation in the process of influence, inspires people create more excellent works through misreading. It is the reader’s "misreading" makes the test value increase gradually from the text itself. The process of producing surplus value will be achieved by the creation and criticism of literary.Chapter five is the special and limitations of Bloom’s misreading theory. Firstly, it will compare misreading theory to Reader response criticism theory and Deconstruction, in order to discuss the misreading theory’s position. The comparison will make the uniqueness of Bloom’s misreading theory more striking. Secondly, it will discuss the limitations of Bloom’s misreading theory. The part will discuss the influence of Bloom’s misreading theory to China’s Literary Theory and Criticism, and provide new research method and perspective to Chinese traditional theory study. We affirm the positivity of Bloom’s theory of misreading, similarly,we can’t ignore its negative effects.
