The development of human history is essentially a process from a low-leveldevelopment to an advanced one, from one-sided development to all-round development.A complete man is the one who is fully-developed in all his aspects. Man’s fulldevelopment theory is an important part of Marx’s theory. To realize man’s fulldevelopment is not only the fundamental objective of mankind, but also the highest goalof Communist society.The socialist market economy is a new type of market economy. Its superiority liesin its critical inheritance of capitalist market economy and socialist planned economy.Socialist market economy provides a material basis for man’s full development and givesbirth to the modern culture concept. In the meanwhile, it improves man’s ability andquality, diversifies man’s social relations and spares time for man to relax. Most of all,socialist market economy helps man to fulfill his values. By doing so, socialist marketeconomy makes a great effort to promote man’s full development.However, the socialist market economy, after all, is a type of market economy. Itshistorically inherent limitations in the market economy, more or less, will be reflected,which, therefore, blocks man’s full development with its obvious manifestation on suchthings as material dependence, money-worship and extreme individualism. All theseaccelerate the social polarization.In the primary stage of socialism, due to its imperfect systems and restrictedproductivity, man’s full development in socialist market economy conditions has metwith many challenges, such as underdeveloped productivity, materialistically constrainedman’s full development, imperfect social systems, institutional obstacles to man’s fulldevelopment, insufficient cultural constructions, spiritual confusion in man’s fulldevelopment, severe polarization’s and social gap’s effect on man’s full development, lagging quality education and man’s full development in profit-quagmire. Thesechallenges are to be overcome successively in our construction of socialism withChinese characteristics.In socialist market economy, we must strive to advance man’s full development inthe following aspects. Firstly, we have to strengthen our socialist cultural construction tocreate an active and healthy cultural atmosphere for man’s full development. Secondly,we have to strengthen the construction of socialist democracy and law to politicallysupport man’s full development. Thirdly, we have to implement quality education to layan educational basis for man’s full development. Fourthly, we have to coordinate socialrelations to create good conditions for man’s full development. Fifthly, we have to stressman’s sustainable development to find a right path to man’s full development. In short,only through unremitting efforts, are we able to impel man’s full development.
