Plain Aestheticism is the important aesthetical standard and literary categories ofclassical Chinese literary theories. It begins with Thought of Confucianism, Tao andBuddhism which represents the basis of traditional Chinese Culture, thus, it hasdistinctive national characteristics. Considering the development track of PlainAestheticism, it is popular in Six Dynasties from Jin to Wei Dynasty, which reflects"pursuing faineance in mind while use exaggerated speech." It embodies thecharacteristics and ideology of bureaucratic classes. In Tang Dynasty, plain aestheticismwas widely accepted by people as a cultural trend. Moreover, plain aestheticism in TangDynasty was used especially when landscape poet emerge and the coming of landscapepoetry peak. Plain Aestheticism as one mature trend of classical Chinese literary theoriesis typical in South and North Song Dynasty and the poet interpreted it in poetry theoryand creation to the best. Ming and Qing Dynasty inherited the cultural feature of SongDynasty and continually promote it to the perfection while they make a conclusion anddeeply analyses on the connotation of Plain Aestheticism.As far as Chinese Classical Literature and Art, Plain Aestheticism in aestheticcategory must have three elements: tranquil mind, plain form, sincere emotion. Thetheory nature of Plain Aestheticism lies on is the creative method intentionally orunintentionally, intensified or non-intensified; poetry language gorgeous or plain,classical or modern; poetry feature energetic, emotional, mature or classical.In view of Chinese and Western comparative poetics, the ideal of Plain Aestheticismshows national characteristics better. Through the comparison and analyses betweenChinese and Western aesthetic style, we can get the difference in plain aesthetics andgaudy aesthetics, spiritual dominance and language significance. All in all, the basicreason lies in the difference between Chinese agricultural-dominate society and Westerncommercial society.
