If speakers of other languages want to master the Chinese language, they should not onlylearn the language points including vocabulary and grammar, but also the cultural backgroundknowledge. It is expected that more and more folk tales, or folklore, which conveys so muchcultural information, would be introduced into the "teaching of Chinese to speakers of otherlanguages(TCSOL)". This paper mainly studies the folktale-and/or-folklore-related TCSOLactivities, including cultural differences, customs, intercultural misunderstanding, as well as therelevant teaching strategies, skills and teaching reform. Now, texts of folktales containing certainfeatures of the Chinese culture are used in different TCSOL textbooks. Due to a lack ofunderstanding of certain differences between the Chinese culture and other cultures, coupledwith an ignorance of the cultural personality of the overseas students, the editors or teachersmight have brought about some problems in TCSOL, such as misunderstanding, communicationdisorder, which are rarely discussed in the linguistic or cultural monographs and papers. So, thisthesis is aimed to analyze the main problems in teaching folktale/folklore-related Chinese, andon the basis of it, proposes possible solutions to the choice of teaching contents, teaching strategy, course programming as well as teaching tips for the good of both the teachers and the overseaslearners of the Chinese language.
