Nowadays, the ability of English reading and the level of English of the vocational college students are poor, but cultivating the students who have high level of English reading and good ability of English reading is one of the most important goals of the teaching of vocational college. To improve the ability of English reading and the level of English reading, analyze the relationship between them, and cultivate some important factors on cognitive learning styles based on the learning features of vocational college students to induct them to select the right reading strategies to improve their reading ability.First of all, the researcher in this thesis did a survey to the210students who were sophomore and came from the E-commerce Department of Dalian Software University. The researcher studied their learning styles and reading strategies. The instrument was the self-created Vocational College Students Learning Style Questionnaire and Vocational College Students English Reading Strategies Questionnaire, The findings were that (1) these vocational college students did not use the reading strategies very often,(2) the students who knew their learning more could choose the learning strategies that accompanied with their learning styles,(3) they would like their teachers to conduct a learning style cultivation to them but the learning style must be applied to them which was mainly related to showing the pictures and imitating the English movies,(4) these vocational college students had a low using frequency of English reading strategies,(5) the students who knew their own learning styles better would choose to use some English reading strategies which matched to their learning styles. At last, the researcher chooses88students from the210students and divided them into two classes. One was the experimental class and the other was the contrasted class. The experimental class was trained with the perceptive learning style for four months. Before the cultivation, the researcher tested the two classes’English reading level as the pre-test, and worked out the grades of their reading. Then the researcher compared the results and came to the conclusion. In the pre-test, there were no significant differences between the two classes, but after four months, the researcher did the post-test, the differences between the two classes began to appear. The experimental class had a far higher grade than the contrasted class. The researcher did a survey again which showed that the students from the experimental class would make use of a lot of reading strategies to do these reading questions. Based on this, the researcher thought that the cultivation of perceptive learning style to the vocational college students was able to improve the reading level effectively, and to influence their use of the English reading strategies.
