In this study, we investigate the6to10years old children’s understanding of the Social Functions of Verbal Irony by two experiment. In the first experiment, We investigate whether the6to10years old children’s understanding of the Social Functions of Verbal Irony on different perspective is the tingle hypothesis. We set the experimental material in order that the children become a story scenarios with the Scenarios story theory. We assessed6-10years old children’s abilities to detect and interpret the aggressive and humorous intent of speakers who made ironic criticisms and literal criticisms on different perspective. In the second experiment, We investigate whether the6to10years old children’s understanding of the Social Functions of Verbal Irony on different theory of mind. The children were divided into the second theory of mind level of high grouping and second-order theory of mind of the low level grouping, and we assessed6-10years old children’s abilities of detecting and interpreting the aggressive and humorous intent of speakers who made ironic criticisms and literal criticisms on different theory of mind.The results found that, children’s understanding the social function of irony is the tingle hypothesis, regardless of the social perspective of children. Children’s social perspective only differences in the strength of children’s understanding of irony. compared with the Bystander and the been Criticized, the irony critics could understand better the tinge function of the irony. The6-10years old children’s understanding of the social function of irony is the uneven development of. The6years old children had been able to understand the tinge function of irony from different social perspective. The10years old children had begun to understand the humor function of irony. The8years old children with a high level of second theory of mind had begun to understand the humor function of irony. The rapid development age of the capacity of understanding the tingle function of the irony is8to10year-old. The children’s understanding the strength of the social function of irony is different from one to another mind level of theory. Compared with the children who is second-order theory of mind the low level of grouping, the children who is second-order theory of mind the high level of grouping assessed the irony criticized more humor. The ability of children understanding the social function of irony is not only influenced by the level of second-order theory of mind, but also influenced by other factors.
