The introduction part mainly introduces the purpose and significance of choosing this topic, analyzes the studying background of modern Buddhistic Lao Zi theory, and explains the research ideas and methods. The first chapter analyzes the academic background of modern Buddhistic Lao Zi theory, mainly from the aspects of the study of western thoughts, cultural conservatism, the decline of Confucianism, the prevalence of philosophers in the period of pre-Qin and the renaissance of Buddhism. The second chapter is the introduction of modern Buddhistic Lao Zi theory. First give a brief description of Buddhistic Lao Zi theory literature and describe the form of it’s annotations and its features. Then analyze Lao Zi theory in the perspective of Buddhism mainly from their explanation of Tao and mind-nature theory. Finally analyze the characteristics of modern Buddhistic Lao Zi theory, which shows that it mainly explains Lao Zi by Western learning and cares about the age. The third chapter mainly analyzes Yang Wenhui’s annotation of three chapters of Lao Zi, which discusses his interpretation of Tao by using Buddhism as well as his special interpretation about the Chapter50of Lao Zi. Yang Wenhui interpreted Lao Zi representatively by mixing Buddhist theory together.The fourth chapter studies Ma Yifu’s Lao Zi theory, mainly analyzing his view of Lao Zi’s Tao, mind-nature theory and views of saint in his book, and explaining his annotation method and the reason why he cannot annotate Lao Zi fully. Ma Yifu interpreted Lao Zi in a high angle of mixing theories, and his ability was not below the other Buddhists. The fifth chapter studies Lao Zi Description by Zhu Fu huang, analyzing his understanding of Lao Zi’s Tao, his idea on the learning both sound in theory and practice. This charter focuses on the way he interpreted Lao Zi by Buddhism, such as the theory of Consciousness-only, wisdom of keeping still and deep meditation and Karma in Buddhism. Zhu Fuhuang was unique in the history of Lao Zi theory research because he interpreted Lao Zi with Wei Shi theory system.Chapter6studies Lao Zi General Explanation by Zhang Chunyi, analyzing his discussion of the relationship between pre-Qin scholars and the origin of Lao Zi theory. This annotation emphasizes the teaching methods without words, the benefit of letting things take their own course and the reason of cultivating oneself. Finally introduce his features of interpreting Lao Zi. That is annotating through the various argumentation and Buddhism. Zhang Chunyi’s works is very representative in Buddhism Lao Zi theory research. Seventh chapter studies Liang Qichao’s the Philosophy of Lao Zi. First introduce the main content of his article, analyzing his discussion of the noumenon, the name, the function of Tao, and the way he explain Lao Zi’s philosophy by using Awakening Faith of Mahayana. Liang Qichao interpreted Lao Zi with western philosophy which was the first one of Buddhism Lao Zi theory research.Chapter8studies Master Da Tong’s the philosophy of Lao Zi. First introduce the main content of his book, then analyze the way to explain Lao Zi by western learnings and Buddhism. Datong Master’s book is the most distinct and inspissated in modern Buddhism Lao Zi theory research.
