A study on the generating transformation of Buddhism in China is a very important matter as the research on traditional Chinese ideology and culture concerned. So many scholars have achieved so much in different fields, which provide us with reference and help in future research. At the same time, studying the problem of the generating transformation of Buddhism in China is absolutely necessary in deepening the whole research of the history of Chinese ideology.This paper includes six parts. In the first place, there are some reflections on the theory and methodology in the research of history about Chinese ideology. This part is mainly concerned with the question of how to integrate and illumine between the considerations about philosophy, sociology, philosophy of religions, philosophy of history and the research model in the research of the history of Chinese ideology. The author thinks that the idea of integrating the study of the history of society and the history of ideology has important academic values for us, furthermore, we also need probations into the fields of sociology in order to deepen our grasp of the history. Based on the reflections, the author considers it is necessary to enhance the theoretical study on religious sociology and ethics.The main body of this paper concentrates on the historical and philosophical study on the process of the generating transformation of Buddhism in China. The paper adopts a cultural critique view such as thought model and faith ethics to discuss the conflicts and blend between the traditional Chinese culture and Buddhism culture concomitant the spread of Buddhism culture in China. The author thinks that the Buddhism culture is essentially different with Chinese traditional culture and it is obviously exhibiting on the critiques on traditional culture. The springboard of Confucian and Taoism culture centralizes on the ideas of nature and Qi, so they easily lead to the generation of secret color and blind faith. The author thinks that Chinese Buddhists especially criticize the tendency of natural mode of thinking and mysticism in Chinese traditional culture. The appearance of Zen school in China declares the maturation of Chinese Buddhism culture. The school raises the flag of humanism and opposes the ontological discussions in a polarized mode of thinking.In the end, the author considers that Buddhism culture is important for the whole Chinese culture, especially concerning the mode of thinking and ethics about faith. However, the liberty and critical spirit in culture study is still essential for us, because just as the integrity of Chinese traditional culture, Chinese Buddhism culture still has its advantage and disadvantage.
