The republic was a milestone in China history. The revolution of1911overthrew feudal autocratic rule lasted for two thousand years. The ideas of democratic and republic became deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. The literature of this period depicted a magnificent historical picture for us, especially rural literature, is valuable source for us to research rural society.There were some very famous authors during that time, such as Lu Xun, Mao Dun, Ye Shengtao, Wang Luyan. They gave insightful observations about society and criticized malpractice with swift brushstrokes. Their literature was of great extend and of great value, it’s hard for later writers to surpass them.We follow the description of ancestors, hope to find the fading memory that going to be buried in the dust of history. Social revolution is an unpreventable wave, old social pattern is destroyed, new social pattern is forming, people living under the society can only go around, change their life principle to adapt to a new world.South of the Yangtze River is one of the most prosperous region in China, of profound cultural foundation, first to receive the modern idea, is the cradle of national commodity economy. This dissertation hope to reveal Jiang Nan rural society through the literature of famous writers during different periods.The first chapter introduces the writers and their works which mainly concerned about the Republic of South Village. and elaborated their historical value; The second chapter introduces the daily life of rural South, including the section of vulgar, food, entertainment, scenery, etc.; Chapter Ⅲ describes the main agricultural productions and economic activity of the South; The fourth chapter describes the living conditions of the southern farmers, and their thinking changes.The whole period of republic, it is when the tradition agriculture was under decomposition. The world financial crisis had influenced domestic economy. The entire society focused on revolution. China as a big country of agriculture, in order to keep social stability, must conform reforming. It’s when the village was stable, the society was stable. To benefit the economy, first of all, we must improve the income of peasant, so the society can maintain ongoing development.The beautiful scenery of village, it is hard to find in our modern society, so, in the progress of modern rural construction, we must pay attention to maintain the "local nature". Besides, some problems, like conventions and feudalistic superstition, must be removed by culture construction.In short, the literature inadvertently left by the writer, some of them are not concerned by some historians. The literature is valuable for us to understand the southern rural community and contribute a lot to our research. In the same time, it is a reference to our village construction.
