A Report On The E-C Translation Of Business Contracts

In the context of economic globalization,China,as the second largest economy in the world,is playing a very important role in economic activities.And more and more companies have cooperation with foreign companies,thus international trade becomes increasingly frequent.Under this economic background,the demand for English-Chinese translation of contract texts is also increased enormously.Business contract translation and business translation research have become popular.Due to translation market development and a large number of business translation practice and related professional teaching activities,business contract translation in-depth,systematic research are needed.The author has the opportunity to do some work on translation of international business contracts during her internship.Through the translation practice,some experiences were gained.This thesis starts with the basic information of the translation project,including the background,basic content,translation target and overall frame structure of the translation project.Then it analyzes the theoretical basis of the project and the overall text characteristics of the business contract and points out its particularity in terms of wording,sentence structure,and discourse.Then the preparation of the translation and the analysis of the source text are discussed.In the chapter of case analysis,the translator concludes the emphasis and difficulties in the process of translation andsums up the corresponding solution methods and the translation strategies.The thesis focuses on some difficulties and strategies in the translation of compound sentences in the business contracts.Guided by the Skopos theory,some strategies such as segmentation,stratification,amplification,conversion,and preposition are applied in the translation process.Besides,using terminology management,parallel corpus and Google translation can make up translator's shortage in commercial trade knowledge to some degree.
