The Anti-Japanese War is the national rebellion against foreign aggression forthe sake of national liberation. It is the first Great Patriotic War that China has everachieved a complete victory. The Chinese nation has paid enormous efforts andsacrifices. During the war period, the transportation is the lifeblood of militaryoperations and rear of the building, since the blockade made by the Japanese poses agreat threat on our transportation. In1938, the National Government has begun tomobilize national manpower, material, and set out to restore the traditionaltransportation system to complement the lack of modern transportation. HunanProvincial Government responds positively to the establish the organization, employshipmen and packhorse ships, survey lines, waterways and combined transport, andtimely adjusts the business and organization during the war time, and effectively andsuccessfully complete a variety of transportation tasks, making great contributionsfor the war.Throughout the transportation situation in Hunan Province, it takes a pivotalposition in water and land transportation business, and plays an important role duringthe Sino-Japanese War by effective management and flexible adjustment mechanism.It has broken the Japanese strategic blockade of our transportation, which crushed theattempt of the Japanese to destroy China and brings hope to the pessimistic Chinesepeople in the war. It transports military supplies immediately to support front-linetroops combat, alleviates tense contradictions of wartime transportation, saves thegovernment spending, and enhances the strength of the war, making greatcontributions to the victory of the war. It actively transports the backlog of commoditygoods, regulates the balance between supply and demand, keeps the price stability andsupports the National Government so as to stabilize wartime economy which isswaying in the wind during the war.Hunan province occupies a very important strategic position in theSino-Japanese War. Since it is the hub of the north and south in the hinterland of theYangtze River and NanLing, it also connects the inland and the coastal in China,occupying a key geographical position to connect southeast front line with thesouthwest area, and thus the contributions made by the transportation in HunanProvince in the national victory of the war can not be underestimated.
