A Comparative Study On Euphemism In Korean And English

This research aims at finding features, common grounds and differ ences, and tendency of euphemism of Korean and English by analyzing e uphemism of each language in a comparative manner.There are five sections in this thesis.Section1introduces the purpose of this study, research subjects, research methods, and summarization of some related research content s.Section2is about definition of euphemism and4functions of eup hemism which is divided into avoiding a taboo, avoiding a vulgarity, expression of courtesy and respect and a camouflage expression. Accor ding to comparative analysis, to know the common characters and diver sities of Korean and English euphemism and analyze the causes of diff erence in historical, cultural and social ways.In section3, Korean and English euphemisms are considered and co mpared to constructions as phonetic, vocabulary and grammar.In section4, considered the causes of variance between Korean and English euphemisms are culture differences and elaborate the differe nces in3parts as class consciousness, mode of thinking and differen t values.In section5, the last section we draw the conclusion. It summari zes the conclusions of the comparison between euphemisms in Korean an d English.Due to this research, I hope that we can learn Korean or English euphemism well and acquire cultural backgrounds of each nation by ful ly understanding common grounds and differences of each euphemism.
