This report is written after the writer has completed the translation of the prologue andthe first two chapters of the novel—Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into theAfterlife. The report consists of four parts. The first part is task description, whichintroduces the background of the book, the reasons of choosing this part andcharacteristics of the text. The second part is process of the task, including preparationsbefore translation, translation process and post-translation matters such as revision andevaluation. The third part is case analysis. In this part, I summarize the problems I havemet during translation and classify them into groups. Each kind of problem has exampleswhich are explained by related theories I have learned. Then I try to come up withsolutions to different problems. The last part of this report is personal experience.Difficulties and problems unsolved will be found out in this part. Reflecting on how todeal with these problems will add experience to me and give me inspiration in thefuture.Through the translation of this novel, the writer has realized the difficulty ofliterary translation. The translator also should know clear about the author’s writing style,language characteristics,writing background, relative culture background etc.. The writerwill accumulate miscellaneous knowledge, enlarge the scope of knowledge and combinethe translation theory with the translation practice.
