In recent years, translation process research has been a hot topic in the filed of translation studies.Domestic and foreign scholars continue to explore and study various aspects of translation process with the help of cognitive science tools. With the birth of the translation, mistranslation also appears gradually.Up to now,the researches on mistranslation mainly focus on the analysis of specific translation examples, and there are lack of researches on the phenomenon of mistranslation by exploring the translators' translation process. The translation process, known as the mysterious “black box”,is an important part of exploring the phenomenon of mistranslation.Through exploring its translation process,it has an important significance for translators. For this purpose, this study selects two groups of participants with different translation competence as the research object, and compares differences between these translators who have different translation competence in the translation process by using Camtasia software, translation analysis, questionnaires and post-translation interviews. What's more according to the analysis on the participants' translation process, this study explores the causes and countermeasures for the phenomenon of mistranslation. In terms of mistranslation, through analyzing the participants' translation works,it is found that the mistranslation can be roughly divided into the following three categories: proper nouns mistranslation, mistranslation of cultural elements, and mistranslation of logical relationship. In each type of mistranslations, different translators perform differently in the translation process. In the mistranslation of proper nouns, the difference between translation beginners and advanced translators is mainly reflected in the use of computer-aided translation tools, the latter are more expertly than the former in the using of computer-assisted translation tools,so the mistranslation rate of proper nouns of latter is lower;in the mistranslation of cultural elements, the differences between translation beginners and advanced translators are mainly reflected in the extraction of lexical meaning, modification behavior and the use of computer-aided translation tools;in the mistranslation of logical relationship, the differences between the two groups are mainly reflected in the processing of syntactic relations, modification behaviors and the use of computer-aided translation tools. The most significant differences are performed in the modification behavior and the use of computer-aided translation tools.Advanced translators make constant modification to reduce the frequency of mistranslations. The use of computer-aided translation tools also plays an important role in the translation process;while the translation beginners are more inclined to write their translation results after careful consideration, and the use of computer-aided translation tools is limited. It can be seen that the use of computer-assisted translation tools and the improvement of the translators' language ability are able to reduce the occurrence of mistranslation effectively. In terms of research significance, this paper combines the mistranslation phenomenon with the translation process research from the perspective of cognition, and explores causes and countermeasures of mistranslation by quantitative and qualitative analysis, which is beneficial to improve translators' translation competence and provides suggestions for the translation teaching.Although this study adopt a mixed method,it cannot avoid the influence of subjective factors. Therefore, this study still has certain limitations and needs to be improved.
