Folk Belief And Buddhism In Datong Since The Reform And Opening Up

Folk beliefs and Buddhism coexist has a very long time, has mutual influence and continue to penetrate in a long period of history. Since the reform and opening up, both strengthen the interaction with each other in the new context of the times, showing a new blend. This paper takes the Datong of Shanxi as an example, based on the collect data after fieldwork, combined with local literature and theory, emphatic elaborating the revival of the folk beliefs and Buddhism and the situation of interaction between the two since the reform and opening up, and analyzes the interaction of both the causes and results.The paper is divided into six parts, the main contents are as follows.Introduction section reviews the existing research about the relationship between folk beliefs and Buddhism from the academic circles, and proposes sitting causes of the present study, the significance of the topic and the research content and methods on this basis.The first chapter introduces an overview about the folk beliefs and Buddhism of Datong before the reform and opening up previously, main including Datong, folk beliefs of Datong before the Republic, Buddhism of Datong before the Republic, the folk belief and Buddhism of Datong in the Republic of China to the reform and opening up.The second chapter examines the revival of folk beliefs and Buddhism in Datong since the reform and opening up. It main incjudes the performances and reasons of the revival of folk beliefs and Buddhism since the reform and opening up.The third chapter discusses interaction between the folk beliefs with the Buddhism since the reform and opening up in Datong. The first, folk beliefs attach and make use of Buddhism mainly depends on the construction of the temple for god, the transformation of the Buddhist gods, accept the worship of Buddhist philosophy and folk beliefs worshipers take part in activities in Buddhist temples and Buddhist festivals. The second, the Buddhism accept and approach to folk beliefs is mainly manifested in the absorption and utilization of Buddhism civil God, participating in and taking in ancestor worship, the propaganda way of Buddhism tend to the folk beliefs and holding and taking part in other activities of folk beliefs.The fourth chapter discusses the causes and consequences of interaction between the folk beliefs and the Buddhism.The main reason that the folk beliefs depend on and make use of Buddhism is in order to strive for its own legitimacy.And the Buddhism accept and approach to the folk beliefs is mainly in order to obtain a wide rage mass foundation and influence.The consequences of interaction between the folk beliefs with the Buddhism like this:the folk beliefs have expanded their space of survival and development, and evolution in some respects to the standardization; the Buddhism become further secularization, localization, folk beliefs; a more harmonious relationship between the folk beliefs and the Buddhism.The ending part summaries the full text and emphasizes that the interaction between the two does not mean that another alternative, and certainly the interaction between the two is beneficial to nowday modernization and construction of harmonious society.
