The author of this thesis, through study on drawings of a woman opening door, deeply explores formation history of this kind of drawings and the causes of its widely spread in Song, Liao, Jin and Yuan dynasties. Study on its age and area features is helpful to learn about life and spiritual conditions of age reflected by drawings of this special age, and has important meaning to study people’s thoughts, lives and burying culture of this age. The author of this thesis, with literature search generalization, illustration and conclusion, on main basis of reports on present archaeological excavation of tombs with drawing of a woman opening door in Song, Liao, Jin and Yuan dynasties, referring to other related data and fully considering research results of predecessors.As a widely popular expressive method, different scholars have different opinions on drawings of a woman opening door, it is a kind of decoration drawing. Some think it reflects a woman expecting early return of her husband, while others just see this kind of drawings from aesthetic aspect. The author of this thesis, on basis of reports on present archaeological excavation of tombs with drawing of a woman opening door in Song, Liao, Jin and Yuan dynasties, studies this kind of drawings in different areas and periods and generalizes their features.The author of this thesis mainly studies carriers and main elements of drawings of a woman opening door, which mainly consist of two elements: the door and the woman. In fact, persons opening door mainly are three kinds: the woman, the man and several persons. Because it’s often a woman opening door in this kind of drawings, researches call it drawings of a woman opening door, but it doesn’t mean no existence of drawings of a man or several persons opening door. Its main carriers are wall paintings and brick carvings, with a small amount of stone carvings. According to present archaeological findings, most of drawings of a woman opening door are excavated in tombs in northern areas like Shanxi province, Henan province, Hebei province, Shandong province and area of Shanganning, with area of Chuanyugui in south of China. As for development of drawings of a woman opening door, it can be mainly divided into four periods:coming into being in Donghan dynasty, rapid development from middle of north Song dynasty to its end and beginning of Jin dynasty, peak from middle of Jin dynasty to its end, and declination from Yuan dynasty.Through analyzing above, we can conclude how this kind of drawings developed. With over whelming changes at various social aspects in beginning of Song dynasty. After that, this kind of drawings gradually spread widely and was accepted by Nvzhen and Qidan nationalities. On this basis, it absorbed features of these nationalities and became a fashion. Till Yuan dynasty, with Han culture destroyed by sweep of Mongolians to Han people, burying customs of Han People were inevitably influenced by this sweep. With decoration no longer occupying main positions and brick carving gradually gone in tombs of Han People, opening-door drawings went to their end.
