The motif of a half-open door, which is a kind of motives dating back to Eastern Han Dynasty, throughtroubled times, and appearing again in Tang and Song Dynasty. As its unique form and a consistent pace withthe overall culture background of Song, Liao and Jin period, it remains popular as carriers of concept indifferent regimes. Diverse forms and emphases as these motives in specific places and time have, they are allreflections of regional concepts and cultures in the final analysis. Regards time as item and space as outline, thearticle summarize objectively-existent central areas of such motives in different dynasties, making spaceconversions of them as the expand points of regional analysis, meanwhile taking into account othercontemporary regions. Obtained by analysis the conclusion is that the motives of a half-open door resurge dueto retro ideas and civilian Confucianism, and roughly form two cultural patterns of Song and Liao. During aperiod over a couple of hundreds of years, the motif of a half-open door changes from a kind visual form ofspace expansion to something of stylization and decoration, dying out along with the entire decline ofdecorations in tombs in the end.
