This thesis is written as the translation report of Summary of Initial Environmental Examination, which consists of the following five parts. The first part is about the background and the significance of this translation project. The second part deals with translation process, including the pre-translation preparation, translation process and the proofreading after translation. The third part concerns the analysis of the project. It first analyzes the source text from the perspective of stylistic feature and then introduces the use of different translation methods. Through the analysis of the source text, the author finds that it is characterized by its prediction and prescription. Based on these characteristics, the writer borrows the concept of modal proposition from the science of logics. In chapter three, the writer also by using the methodology of statistics summarizes proportion between modal proposition and non-modal proposition in the source text and proposes to adopt the symbols from the discrete mathematics. Through the process of abstraction and symbolization of the sentences and discourse, the paper explores the methodology of modal logical analysis in translation process which includes formalization of the source sentence and then translates the formula into target language. And the final part gives the conclusion and summary of the whole translation process. From the whole experience of translation process, the writer further makes a conclusion that the application of basic principles of logics, along with general translation skills, can clarify the deep structure of the source text, accurately abstract the major information from the source language and help the target texts get rid of the structure from the original one, which aims at the logical equivalence between the source language and target language.
