A Research Of New Century American Fantasy Movie’s Fant Asy Features From Multiple Aspects

Since the end of the20th century, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series have been sweeping the world. After entering the new century, the fantasy movies are getting even more popular. In2004, The Lord of the Rings:The Return of the King received11nominations for the76th Academy Awards, and eventually all won. In the meantime, the fantasy movies raised upsurge globally.The fantasy movies are different from those science fiction movies of the1980s, they are mainly based on fairy tales or myth stories with rich cultural heritage, by setting magic characters, in the way of describing a story of’heroes defeat evil forces to save the kingdom’in order to create a never land makes people dream about.In the present age, quite a few scholars pay much attention on the fantasy movie, but most of them focus on the type of fantasy, rarely focus on the fantasy feature. The author thinks that the fantasy feature is the most fundamental feature of the fantasy movie. The fantasy feature is an emphasized characteristic which uses a unique cinematic language to describe these stories which are marvelous, unusual, illusory or even ethereal.The fantasy feature is the research standpoint in this paper. From four aspects, to explore the fantasy inspiration source through history and culture, to analyze the fundamental elements which formed fantasy features one by one from the images, in order to uncover the real value of the fantasy feature, to research the relevant instinctive emotions, and eventually grasp the fantasy movie’s aesthetic and practical value.In the international moviedom, the new century is the prosperous period of American fantasy movies. Therefore, the author selected the5grand series:Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, Clash of the Titans and The Twilight Saga, a total of22productions, as the main research objects, to find out the reason of their success, not only identifying the illusory imagination of fantasy movies, but also viewing correctly the influencing significance of fantasy movies to our real life.
