Public notices bring convenience to people’s daily life by fulfilling communicative purpose. Translating Chinese public notices into English can not only promote foreign exchanges but also help foreigners adapt to their lives in China. However, there is a huge difference between China and the West from dimensions like language, culture, ways of thinking and expressive habits. Word-word or sentence-sentence C-E translation of public notices obviously cannot fulfill communicative purpose. Drawing on the achievements of previous research, this report is an analysis of the translation process of translating a large number of public notices under the guidance of the Functionalist Theory, which further demonstrates the important guiding role of the Functionalist Theory in translating public notices and explores relevant translation strategies. It hopes to provide useful references for research and practice of public notices translation. |
