Due to the complex international relations, major countries, though mutually being the stakeholders, still differ greatly from one another in terms of social system, ideology, international status, domestic and foreign policies, and culture. Their differences can be mirrored in the diplomatic languages, in which euphemism plays a prominent role. Euphemism occurs when diplomats try to ease the tension or conflict by communicating in an implicit way. On the diplomatic occasion, diplomatic euphemism is regarded as an effective lubricant. With the vigorous development of the diplomacy in each nation, diplomatic euphemism is becoming a vital part of the diplomatic languages and a powerful communication tool in dealing with diplomatic issues. This thesis, based on the Translation as Adaptation and Selection, discusses interpreting strategies of diplomatic euphemism in translational eco-environment from linguistic, communicative and cultural dimensions. On the one hand, the paper aims at establishing a theoretical framework for analyzing and processing of euphemistic language in diplomatic interpreting. On the other hand, by analyzing the specific examples in diplomatic interpreting, the paper puts forward some solutions.
