For more than fifty years, scholars have concentrated on source language, target language and readers instead of focusing on the interpreter. Professor Hu puts forward the Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection which regards the interpreter as the leading role in the translation process. Currently, the study on this theory mainly has focused on translation works rather than interpreting practice. Based on the 2015 Wang Yi press conference, the thesis attempts to study the selection and adaptation of the interpreter in the consecutive interpreting. This theory adopts the concept of adaptation and selection of Darwin’s evolution theory to explain translation process. It aims to illustrate how the interpreter adapts and selects under the restriction of translational eco-environment, achieving the high degree of holistic adaptation and selection which is measured by the multidimensional transformation of the interpreter, journalists’feedback and interpreter’s quality. This thesis probes into the process of the interpreter’s adaptation and selection and selection to the translational eco-environment with applying the core concepts of this theory. It is concluded through this analysis that the interpreter’s multidimensional transformation applying the interpreting strategies of addition, linear interpretation, reconstruction, free interpreting and explanatory interpreting. As a result, better effect in communication can be achieved through high quality interpreting. Through this thesis, the author intends to research the feasibility and explanatory function of this theory wishing to contribute to the theory and practice of interpreting.
