Research On Interpretation Of Words With Chinese Characteristics In Foreign Affairs From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the speeding up of the globalization, there are a large amount of demands for the foreign affairs interpreting which plays the role of linking a bridge for mutual communication. For china’s special national condition and culture, a lot of words with Chinese characteristics which are hard to be understood by foreigners no matter from the aspects of culture or politics, will inevitably appear in the interpretation of foreign affairs. Thus, it is difficult for the interpreters to interpret them. Based on the Skopos Theory, the thesis respectively illustrates the development and significance of Skopos Theory; an overview of the interpretation of foreign affairs; the application of Skopos Theory to the interpretation of foreign affairs; and an overview of the words with Chinese characteristics. Meanwhile, in combination with the corpus analysis of the "Chinese Leaders’ Speeches", the thesis aims to study the interpretation of the words with Chinese characteristics so as to help interpreters be capable of dealing with the words with Chinese characteristics when they encounter them. The research content in this thesis mainly includes the principles of interpreting words with Chinese characteristics in the interpretation of foreign affairs under the guidance of Skopos Theory; the problem existing in the interpretation of the words with Chinese characteristics in foreign affairs: it is difficult to be satisfactory to both "form and meaning"; the measures to interpret the words with Chinese characteristics in foreign affairs interpreting. This thesis highlights the guidance role of Skopos Theory for the interpretation of the words with Chinese characteristics, which also play a role of guidance for the interpreters.
