Study On Star Image In Bai Juyi’s Poems

Bai Juyi, the poet in Tang Dynasty, has wrote2916poems (including the addendum of109poems),We have a lot of research to his poetry in the academia, but for his poetic images, it was token as the way ofpoetry expression, such as borrowing lyric and scenery lyric, etc, we never sort out its poetic images in theoverall view and here is lack of systematic research. The astrologic images of Sun，Moon，Stars，as apoliticized imagery， was not involved in the research of Bai Juyi poetic images at present.Many verses mentioned the astrology in his poems. I will try to classify and analysis systematically of thiskind of poems by Bai Juyi in my thesis. Which will help us to understand Bai Juyi poems comprehensivelyand deeply? I will focus on analyzing his poetic images of astrology within which the poet expressed hispolitical idea, Career boredom, time consciousness and life emotion.This thesis is divided into four chapters:In the first chapter, I analyzes the reasons of the astrological images appears a lot in Bai Juyi poetry. BaiJuyi used a lot of astrological images, he was influenced by the Confucian view of "harmony between manand nature" and the Book of Changes view of "nature has its order" and "imaging in nature", meanwhile healso was influenced by the political meanings within the Sun, Moon, Stars and social reality. I sort out hispoetry and classify as Sun imaging, Moon imaging, Star imaging, and based on these, try to study poet’schanging of mentality.In chapter II, I study the poet’s feeling within Sun imaging in his poems. Sun is the political symbol,It makes a lot of this imagery appears in Bai Juyi poems. This imaging brings the poet’s awareness of hisown political career, to express his depressed ambitions, sense of life and anxiety of time wasting, todescript the various natural scenes with Sun, to create the different atmosphere for poetry. Also fill in the author’s feeling, give it human feelings, both longing for a better life and the caused sense of homesickness.In the Chapter III, I make a classification research about the Moon in his poem and the mentalitychange within it. Bai Juyi was demoted and then he is away from the court to avoid the party struggles; hisindividual experience has a certain impact to the poem’s content, feeling and imagery. Moon alwaysmeans missing home and family, it is a symbol of wanting to back hometown in the ancient China. Itreflects＂the ancient poet’s loneliness and looking forward comfort and free; also it is the literati forstatesman to avoid the reality and the suffering to coming out of the normal’s. These meets Bai’s spiritualworld, by Moon, the poet expressed the feelings of missing on the trip, or expressed feeling of far fromhome, or a sense of career frustration and loneliness.In the Chapter IV, talking about Bai Juyi’s poem "Star" image and ignited the career mentality.Throughout the naming of the Stars in heaven, it is not difficult to find, the name of these constellations arenamed in accordance with the human society official name or common things in daily life, it can be saidthese are the microcosm of human society in heaven, it is no wonder that "Lang guan should be measuredout the concept of the position occupied by the literati mind. Bai Juyi with Star imagery reflects humandifferent political affairs, is entrusted with the political ideals and thoughts and feelings of the poet.In short, with the Sun, the Moon, Stars and other external symbols, to vent their inner misery, or sad forfar away from friends and relatives, or underappreciated and depressed, or resentful because of the ups anddowns in the career.
