In recent years, China’s international status has been upgraded. The Olympic Games held in Beijing in2008, the World Expo held in Shanghai in2010and a phenomenon has appeared around the world which iscalled"Mandarin fever". Many international famous university have specifically to build ConfuciousInstitutes in order to provide more opportunities for the people who have great enthusiasm to learn Chineseculture and language, at the same time, it also offers a good platform for communicating Chinese culturewith foreign customs.Except setting up Confucious Institute, there are many students come to China to feelthe Chinese cultural atmosphere by themselves. They love China and are more addicted to the broad andprofound Chinese characters.The color words as a series of Chinese vocabulary as well as one of the mostdifficult part for the overseas students.Although the distinction between the meaning of the colored word isnot difficult, but the cultural connotation of the color words which hidden behind are hard to understand forthem. This paper studies two most representative color words--" red " and " white " which are selectedfrom a large number of color words. It will explore the origin meaning of the two color words, extendedmeaning and the meaning behind the words by collecting data from authoritative dictionaries. In addition,some problems still exist in the color words teaching methods,such as insufficient attention to cultureteaching, the culture teaching of color words is not thorough and so on. This paper puts forward somereasonable teaching strategy on the basis of analyzing the teaching status. Changing teaching ideologies bysome new teaching methods to make overseas students feel interesting and relaxed on learning them, and italso helps overseas students with mastering the knowledge more comprehensive. The methods includesemantic association teaching method, comparative teaching method, audio-visual method. so that thestudents in the learning associated with the color word knowledge can be more interesting, and morecomprehensive grasp. This paper’s distributions are shown as below:1、The first chapter mainly describes the present research situation of color words and its teachingmethods.2、The second chapter mainly elaborates the color words’ meaning of "red" and "white" in the Chineseand Western culture.3、The third chapter focuses on the present color words teaching situation in the class of Chinese for overseas students, and also puts forward some reasonable teaching strategy on the basis of analyzing theteaching status.4、The fourth chapter will put the mentioned color words teaching strategies into the real classcircumstances, with the expectation of helping overseas students with color words’ high efficientlylearning.
