The Qualifications Of Interpreters On The Basis Of The Application Of The Theory Of Sense In English-Chinese Interpreting

With the implementation of the reform and opening up, China’s exchange with theoutside world has entered a new stage in both its width and depth. In this process,language bridges the different cultures and thus the interpreter‘s important role hasbeen more and more recognized by people. As a result, the theory relating to it hasmushroomed in recent years.The theory of sense, which was established in Paris in1960s, has showed a stronginfluence on other countries’ related studying and became the leading theory at onetime with its innovativeness and systematicness. Representatives of this theory werescholars and professors who shared similar theoretical conceptions, namely, DanicaSeleskovich and Marianne kederer. Danica Seleskovich was the most active inpromoting both interpreting practice and theoretical research． After years ofobservation and a great deal of research work, Seleskovich and her colleagues reachedand proposed the main thoughts of the theory of sense.’Interpretation is essentiallythe formulation of a sense or message in the deverbalized form, Their findings arecompiled in a standard theoretical framework and expressed in a dozen of books,which exerted great influence on the future interpreting research．This thesis can be divided into six parts, with the first to have a comprehensiveknowledge and understanding of it. For playing its role better, this paper gives a fullchapter to introduce it, and tries to give the reader a better understanding. The fourthand fifth chapters are the most important ones in that they embody the author’soriginality．The fourth focus itself on the practical implementation of the theory ofsense in the English-Chinese interpretation, while the fifth on the qualifications of aninterpreter, and the sixth concludes all the constraints.With a keen interest in and longing for interpretation, this thesis mainly talksabout the practical implementation of the theory of sense during the English-Chineseinterpreting, the difference between the English and Chinese thinking, and concludesthe qualifications for an interpreter according to the relevant research.
