Picture writing, also known as original writing, classical writing, intepretativewriting, discourse-chapter writing, etc., is in the early developmental stage of ofwriting system. One prominent feature of words in ealy stage is that it rarely recordslanguages accurately and completely. It may record words in the language, butphrases and sentences in most cases. As a relatively immature writing system, it hasmany other nonverbal properties, such as the use of points, lines, position, etc.,whichare pictural elements. On the other hand, it also has many elements of words. Thepurpose of this article is to discuss the properties of picture writing in early stage,especially Dongba characters through these properties.This article includes four chapters:Part1—Introduction. This part introduces the main research results about theproperties of picture writing in the early developmental stage of of writing system,focused on Dongba characters.Part2—It reveals the pictural properties and performances of picture writing,especially Dongba characters.Part3—It reveals the immature written properties and performances of picturewriting, especially Dongba characters.Part4—Summary. This part summarize the properties of picture writing in theearly developmental stage of of writing system, especially Dongba characters on thebasis of the former two parts.
