"One-picture studio" refers to those production companies that only produce one movie then go out of business for various reasons. Many times in early Chinese film history (before]949), numerous production companies were established overnight. One type of them, the "One-picture studio" was an important organizational form and commercial phenomenon which is unique, abundant and has remained relevant ever since. Their social influence is considerable. Their commercial property and market participation value in the course of China’s movie business development are irreplaceable. As a commercial phenomenon that can not be ignored in the early history of Chinese cinema, and an important basis of China’s early film producing journey, the "One-picture studio" went through periods of initial exploration and trial production, trade liberalization and business speculation, wars and market competition, crisis and revival, along with early Chinese cinema, and showing different commercial qualities In each different historical period.This paper attempts to study these stages, combining the external environment and stereo-historical contexts which "One-picture studio" were in,such as the political background of the times. the economic and market trends, attitudes toward culture and art. and social public discourse. This paper will also try to discuss the development space of medium and small scale production enterprise under monopoly-systems, and to think of the historical value and the commercial aesthetic consequences of the early "One-picture studio " phenomenon for the establishment of China’s movie industry regulations.
