This paper presents an investigation into the Chinese teaching staff, the Chinese textbook, teaching facility and teachers’needs for academic training. In addition to the exploration into the Chinese teaching staff, textbooks, teaching facility and teachers’demands on academic training, a survey on learners’ motivation of learning Chinese, their Chinese learning purpose, their understanding of Chinese culture, the HSK test, and voluntary Chinese native speaker teachers was also conducted. The findings revealed some problems in the current situation of Chinese teaching and learning situation in Caobang-Vietnam:1. Textbooks used for Chinese teaching and learning were old-fashioned.2. Teaching facility was not adequately invested, and therefore, deficit.3. Chinese teaching staff’s proficiency was not to the standard of the Ministry of Education and Training.4. Almost of the teaching staff were young female teachers with limited teaching experience. 5. Teachers’academic training and retraining had low quality and was not applicable.Some suggestions have been put forth as the solutions for the problems:1. Immediately compiling or selecting Chinese textbooks suitable for Vietnamese learners.2. Re-equipping facility for new demands of Chinese teaching and learning.3. Selecting teaching methods appropriate to local students4. Taking practice overseas, not domestically5. Creating policies to encourage teachers’academic training.6. Cooperating with domestic and overseas universities to foster the academic development of teachers of ChineseAll the data collected, after having been analysed, and the suggested solutions will be sent to Caobang Department of Education and Training.
