| Mei Yaochen, an outstanding poet of Song Dynasty, had written more than two thousand and eight hundred poems in his lifetime. He was praised as the pioneer of Song poetry. Many types of his poems were researched deeply inlcuding poems of antiphon, poems of sympathy on farmers, poems of object-chanting and so on, while, to our regret, his farewell poems were neglected. Based on the writer’s statistics, there are587farewell poems in Mei’s collection of poems, accounting for20%of the total. The ideological content and artistic characteristics of Mei Yaochen’s farewell poems were analyzed deeply in this paper. Meanwhile, the influence and limitations of his farewell poems has been studied preliminarily.The paper was divided into three parts:introduction, main body and conclusion. Mei Yaochen and the general situation about the research of Mei Yaochen’s poems were introduced briefly in the introduction. An overview on the development of farewell poem was given in the first chapter of the main body. A quantitative analysis for the basic situation of Mei Yaochen’s farewell poems was performed in the sencond chapter.In the third chapter, Mei’s farewell poems were classified into four types as follows:bidding farewell to the person who was going to his post, bidding farewell to the person who was appointed to be the envoy to Liao Dynasty, bidding farewell to the person who failed in the imperial examinations and bidding farewell to the monk who was going to travel. And then the thought connotation of these poems was analyzed deeply. In order to research the artistic features of them, Mei’s farewell poems were compared with the ones of the past generations in the fourth chapter. The influence of Mei’s farewell poems made on Ouyang Xiu, Su Shi, Huang Tingjian and Lu You was discussed in the fifth chapter. The limitation of Mei’s farewell poems was dissected in the sixth chapter. The status of the Mei Yaochen’s farewell poems was summarized in the conclusion at last. |
