This is a translation practice report. The source text is of typical scientific writing style, titled "The Evolution and Environmental Effects of Major Land Uses in the Farming or Grazing Transitional Zones of Northern China". With the permission of the writer of the source text, the author translates the paper mentioned above, describes the translation process and analyzes the translating skills in the report. It is the author’s hope that she can improve her translating ability through the specific practice, and that her report can help her peers in the translation of texts for science and technology.The report includes four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to the background, objectives, significance and the source text of the translation practice. The second part describes the whole process of translation, including the preparation, translation, and the revision. The third part is the core of the report. It analyzes the stylistic features of English for Science and Technology and explores the principles in translating texts for science and technology from Chinese to English, on the basis of which the author adopts various translating skills to overcome the difficulties in the process of translation, such as conversion, synthesization, splitting, amplification, and omission.It also proposes some translation methods in the charts, symbols and the place names. The last part is the summary of the report, the translating experiences, and the problems yet to solve.
