A Report On Translating Special Science And Technology Text

China has become a world power in water conservancy and hydropower.With Three Gorges Project cooperation between China and other countries,sci-tech staff pay close attention to these texts and regard them as a prominent position in mutual communication.This translation project is entrusted by the Construction and Operation Bureau of China Three Gorges Corporation.This thesis is a C-E translation report of the special science and technology text--Three Gorges Project Hydrology and Sediment Annual Report 2017.Before translating the project,the author analyzes its type and categorizes parallel texts.Then confirming the text feature,the author summarizes language characteristics and translation difficulties.Language characteristics are accuracy,logic and conciseness.And translation difficulties mainly involve technical terms uncertainty,the correct understanding of logical relationship within a sentence and so on.In the final stage,the author revises translation mistakes.The chapter “Case Analysis”,the core part in the thesis,initially explores the difficult vocabulary and sentences as research objects.Based on translation difficulties,the author adopts translation strategies,such as literal translation,omission,division,aiming to improve the translation quality.Through above analysis,this report presents the following findings.Firstly,from the lexical aspect,the choices of vocabulary should be verified constantly to achieve the accuracy of special science and technology texts.Secondly,from the syntactic aspect,translators should understand the logical relationship between sentence parts,choosing the best expression to achieve the logic.Finally,from the efficiency of obtaining information for the foreign sci-tech staff,the redundant information should be deleted in the translation to achieve the conciseness.
