An Ethical Interpretation On Chuang-tzu’s Idea Of Freedom

This article tries to study on Chuang-tzu’s freedom thought from the angle of ethics by historical datum and original work of Chuang-tzu. The article tries to unify the history and thought of freedom and it emphasizes on the analysis of Chuang-tzu’ freedom thought of its inner purpose and theoretical tension. We can grasp its real spirit and thought of layout and structure. Meanwhile, we also try to embody the ethical theory of synchronous observation and interpretation in ethics and the history. This article explains free thought ethics aspect on elaboration and explanation by three parts.The first part mainly expounds the formation historical background of Chuang-tzu’s freedom thought, as well as the philosophical basis. It points out that the falling of ceremony、 feudal strife、ethical order the original were destroyed in the spring and Autumn period. This emerging class of Scholar stratum taking positive thinking, they are respectively proposed construction of ethics advocated from the respective positions. Chuang-tzu, as an important representative of Taoist, he thought that the people should imitate the rule of nature, for example,"do not damaging the natural; do not deliberately going contrary to morality. Thus, Chuang-tzu forming his free thought is different from the others.The second part focuses on three relative level including "day and mysterious, the human and the nature" to explore ethical connotation of Chuang-tzu freedom thought. From the relation the mysterious creator between God and human, Chuang-tzu thought is that freedom is to comply with the natural laws of the universe. Just only adapting to nature, complying with the law can achieve the realm of freedom; from the perspective of the relationship between man and nature, Chuang-tzu believed that the universe is equal and it should eliminate the boundaries from nature to person and should not to be a slave under the nature; from a relationship between me and me, person should remove themselves the so-called "civilization mark" and should keep the real.The third part mainly analyzed the modern value of ethics of Chuang-tzu’s idea of freedom. On the positive side, the way of complying with nature to achieve freedom is reference resources between human beings and nature of contemporary social reflection; besides, the independent personality and the importance of the pursuit of spiritual freedom is the treatment of many mentality diseases in modern social marker economy. In addition, Chuang-tzu stressed that conform to the living environment, which in the positive aspect it can also help to ease the inflated desire. Nevertheless, Chuang-tzu’s freedom thought also contained the negative aspects:firstly, Chuang-tzu stressed on the natural obedience so that people ignore the play to the initiative and creativity; secondly, he excessively stressed the return to nature, leading to deny on person’s desire and emotion reasonableness and leading to not to see the active effects of emotion desire for people and social development.
