TCSL writing course is not only difficult to be learnt but also to be taught. Littleinterest and fear of difficulty are the common problems in TCSL writing classes. Thisthesis briefly analyses the problems existed in the TCSL writing courses through themethods of literature study, classroom observation and questionnaire survey. On the basisof this, the idea of applying the whole language theory to the TCSL writing courses is putforward. Whole language theory emphasizes synchronous development of language skills,wholeness and authenticity of teaching situation, positive view on students, which makeit easy to stimulate students’ interest in learning and to make the writing process moresmoothly and easier to be accepted by the students.This paper mainly includes the following:The first part introduces the reasons and meaning, related research results andmethods of this research.The second part analyses the current situation of TCSL writing course throughclassroom observation and questionnaire survey.The third part introduces the development of the whole language theory and basicprinciples of the theory, and the cognition to writing based on whole language theory.The fourth part introduces the design principle of TCSL writing course based on thewhole language theory.The fifth part deals with the specific content of the teaching design: the teachinggoals, teaching object, and teaching procedures. In addition, this part also includes theanalysis of this instructional design.The sixth part further elaborates the necessity and feasibility of the application ofthe whole language theory in TCSL writing course and even all the TCSL courses.
