The author mainly focuses on the study of translating strategy of Chinese three-character phrases, especially those with features of traditional Chinese culture, such as traditional Chinese festivals, Chinese allusions, and Chinese operas. Based on the data source of the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary [Chinese-English Edition](2002)(CCD is the abbreviation later), this thesis has collected, selected and counted the concrete numbers, then analyzed the translation of them in CCD. According to predecessors’ study of Chinese three-character phrases, and to their study of Chinese-English translating strategies, the author has summarized the existing literature, and pointed out the key translating theories and translating strategies of these three-character phrases studied here, then at last verified them. As for some phrases studied in CCD, the author will put forward some more reasonable and suitable suggestions in order to make them improved.This thesis aims at summarizing the existing achievement of many scholars, and analyzing those with Chinese characteristics by means of translating methods and strategies such as literal translation and free translation, and domestication and foreignization. As a matter of fact, the author hopes the readers will learn more traditional Chinese culture through this study, and make traditional Chinese culture widely spread and developed.
