On The Translation Skills Of Chinese Culture-Specific Terms

Political documents are articles of a particularly serious style with unique political and cultural characteristics, especially requiring the fidelity during the translation. More and more efforts have been devoted to this kind of documents thanks to our policy of opening up to outside and increasing communication with the world. It is found that new expressions and statements with distinctive Chinese characteristics are emerging in endlessly, and undoubtedly an appropriate translation would have an immediate influence on the external communication. Thus, based on the translation practice of a regional work of government, the writer try to summarize several skills of expressions with unique Chinese characteristics (Chinese Culture-specific terms) in political documents. There were many scholars doing translations and research on the subject, most of which were not systematically enough. It is exactly the direction where the writer is fighting for.The original document of the translation is the report on the work of the government which Wang Jun, the governor of Shanxi Province, made at the Sixth Session of the11th People’s Congress of Shanxi Province on January11th,2012, and the main contents are the report of various work of government in2011and plans to be implemented by the government in2012.The main body consists of four parts:the first part introduces the background, meaning and structure of the task; the process gives some statements on the preparatory work, translation process and check and correction after the translation; Chinese Culture-specific terms in this thesis are to be classified into three groups, plus with the translation practice and corresponding theories, the writer will find some skills according to different groups; the last chapter will offer some experience and translation methods during the whole process for further reference.
