Meanwhile,political document translation, in particular, the government work report, exhibitsdifferent features compared with any other cross-cultural material, making it aspecial translation area. The practice research of the translation of The2013Mudanjiang Government Work Report may shed some light to the researchers andlearners in translation of government work reports in the future.The research object of this project is The2013Mudanjiang Government WorkReport, which is the summary of the government work in2012and the work plan in2013. In the preparation stage before the translation of the government work report,the translator studied materials in detail concerning political document translation,and read English materials related to the government work report. After analysis andstudies on these materials, the translator was well aware of the translating strategiesof political documents. The reading of many research papers on this topic has furtherthe translator’s understanding of political documents and helped the translatoraccumulate frequently used words, phrases and sentence patterns concerning thisissue. Meanwhile, under the guidance of translating theories, including Nord’s text analysis theory and functional school’s text typology theory, the practice oftranslating The2013Mudanjiang Government Work Report affords the translatorskills and methods in translating government work reports.
