To pay attention to people’s,especially intellectuals’ spirit and psychology state is animportant topic in Ge Fei’s fiction creation.Take"Jiangnan trilogy"for example:《Ren mian taohua》(2004) records Lu Xiumi’s exploration on her social ideal in the early period of Republicof China,《Shan he ru meng》is about Tan Gongda’s dream and practice in1950s and 《Chunjin jiang nan》discusses the spirit reality of China in the present.The leading characters’s"Utopia ideals" end up with failures in the former two novels,however in the third one"Utopia ideals" are fading out and individual’s spirits are disappearing as well.Ge Fei’s trilogy is still his style as avoiding the major historical events as he usually does,reconsidering the one hundred years’ history through individual’s angle and experience.It’snot only reflecting Ge Fei’s thinking about time and historical being but also showing hisultimate concern about people while he is questioning to the spirit issues about human being’sideal and its lose in his trilogy. The paper is attempting to find out the meaning of how idealinfluence people during the one hundred years in China as well as seek for the reason whyideal’s fading and the significance of Utopia ideal in the present reality.This article is trying to research from the angle of ideal and make each novel a chapterunder control of the theme of" ideal", to observe the spirit of generations in China during the20th century according to the time of the novels’ narrative,analyse Utopiaobsession,revolutionary impulse,love dream and beliefs in materialistic world,to see howthese become their own’s social form and the destiny of human beings in the social practiceand individual behavior.The main body of the artical contains three chapters:the first chapter《Ren mian tao hua》:the end of the Utopian passion in creating a new history in the late QingDynasty,to elaborate the utopian ideal pursuit of traditional literati and modern intellectuals;the second chapter《Shan he ru meng》:the loss of communistic perspective in the middle of20th century, to discuss the intricacy of ideal love and career ambition which is constructing amodern state;the third chapter《Chun jin jiang nan》:the absence of spirit in today’s reality,togenerally expound spirit is absent in this society and the inquiry and deliberation of Ge Feiwhich concerns to Utopian ideal and spiritual being.
