Since the1990s Qiu Huadong has been a representative writer of narration of city.On the one hand, hisartical is the narration of city about Chinese literature in the20th century, which reflects the city’s bustlingand deformity; and on the other hand, it exposes people’s rejections and reservations about the modern cityin traditional culture, especially male-dominated culture. The paper is divided into six parts to analyze QiuHuadong’s narration of city so as to grasp the Qiu Huadong’s city novels on the whole.I. ExordiumThis part makes a brief introduction about Qiu Huadong, and it summarizes characteristics of QiuHuadong’s novels. Ultimately, it confirms the indispensable position of Qiu Huadong’s novel in cityliterature.II. Research about narration of city in the20th centuryThe part mainly elaborates three features, the feature of accelerated modernization and urbanizationprocess, the feature of the city’s literature absence or misreading, and the feature of depreciating the cityand appreciating the country among the seventeen years.III. Qiu Huadong’s city narrationThis part mainly analyzes the prosperity of the city literature in the1990s. It analyzes the differencebetween male narrator and female narrator from two points of view, which are male negative and femaleaffirmative. It also elaborates Qiu Huadong’s description of modern city from four aspects-the people, theenvironment, the life and the culture.IV. Female in the cityThis part mainly analyzes and criticizes those women in Qiu Huadong’s works, who are adapted tocity life, and gradually devoured by the city and become deteriorators.V. Modern city narration under Traditional cultural thinkingThis chapter mainly introduces Qiu Huadong’s negative attitudes towards the modern city, themaladjustment from the traditional agricultural civilization and migrant workers who were filled withnostalgia. VI. EpilogueThis part is the reflection and final summary to Qiu Huadong’s city literature. It illustrates that QiuHuadong’s literature seizes the characteristics of the times. Qiu’s novels keep the fresh quality of life andexpand the definite depth in thinking.
