The material comes from a novel—While I’m Falling written by Laura Moriarty. It’smainly presents a compelling depiction of how one young woman’s life changes when herfamily breaks up for good. Darkly humorous, beautifully written, and filled with crystallineobservations about how families fall apart, While I’m Falling takes a deep look at therelationship between a daughter and a mother when one is trying to grow up and the other istrying to stay afloat.This report records the translation process of the first two chapters this novel. It includesfour parts: the brief introduction of the translating task, the process of translation, case studyand conclusion. The first part gives a brief introduction to the source, the author, the featuresand the content of target text. The second part mainly tells the preparatory work before thetranslation, and the revision and amendment after the translation. The third part, at first,introduces the translation criteria of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance” presented byYan Fu, then lists many examples to show the methods of translation mainly used,and getsthe better translation through analyzing and comparing at last. The last part is conclusion,including the factors that influence the translation and the ways of improving the quality oftranslation. Only by taking exercises and improving yourself continually can you become aqualified translator.
