This material comes from a novel While I’m Falling written by Laura Moriarty. It’s fromthe3rd and the4th chapters of the book which presents a compelling depiction of how oneyoung woman’s life changed when her family broke up for good. Ever since her parentsannounced that they were getting divorced, Veronica had been falling. Black humor,beautifully written, and filled with crystalline observations about how families fell apart,While I’m Falling takes a deep look at the relationship between a daughter and a mother whenone was trying to grow up and the other was trying to stay afloat.This translation report is divided into four parts. Part one gives a brief introduction to thesource and content of the text and the translation purpose. Part two constitutes the main bodyof the thesis and focuses on the whole process of translation, including the pre-translationstage, the translation stage and the proofreading stage. Stage one attaches great importance tothe reading and analysis of the original text and summary about the writing style of the writer.Stage two brings out some difficulties and problems during translation stage. And stage threeemphasizes the details in proof-reading stage. In the third part, the author sums up EugeneNida’s theory of functional equivalence and details to compare the original version with theamended version. Part four carries out in-depth experience on practice and summarizes thewhole thesis.
