This dissertation introduces two different ideas and different practices in mainland China on the path of development of professional music education before liberation in1949. One of Cai Yuanpei and Xiao Youmei created in Shanghai in1927, the National Conservatory of Music "is represented by the concept of’Westernization’of professional music education; secondly based on Mao Zedong and other Communist Party leaders in1938Yan’an Lu Xun Art Academy created Department of Music "as the representative of the revolutionary professional music education philosophy.The two institutes under the guidance of the two different concepts in the respective regimes territory with two different professional music education practices, different practices, including the purpose of course different, different academic structure, different teachers, different students,different results, different contributions. Despite the presence of so many differences, the two institutes still in their respective positions play inportant roles, made a profound impact.This dissertation tries to interpret analysis from two institutes in different socio-political and cultural background, different philosophy and practice of internal and external factors, trying to interpret the concept of the two concepts and practice, the final contributions of the two institutes.
