As the brightest star in the history of China’s musical literature and the most resplendent chapter of the Han Dynasty music,"Yuefu song poems of the Han Dynasty" laid a solid foundation for the development of music of later ages. Although the musical notation of Yuefu song poems of the Han Dynasty that have been handed down to the present moment are few, we still can conduct singing analyses on the musical remnants of Yuefu song poems of the Han Dynasty through current scientific methods of vocalization and those singing methods for archaic music recorded in the ancient works. This paper aims to carry out systematic analyses and studies on the remaining pieces of Yuefu song poems, their singing performance and the composition of new Yuefu song poems with a view to summing up some basic methodologies for their performance. The author argues that, in order to give a good performance of Yuefu song poems or any other ancient songs, the singer should, first of all, have an interest in the Chinese classical poetry, understand the poems’ contents and the composition backgrounds, and then sing the song in the light of the music style of that period. Meanwhile, the author hopes that more and more modern composers will pay attention to Yuefu song poems of the Han Dynasty and produce more pieces to fill this blank.
