Interpreting quality is an important factor for evaluating interpreting standard orcredibility. After each field lecture interpretation, making a careful quality self-assessment(QSA) is an essential step for interpreters to advance their interpreting ability. Therefore, adopting which methods to make QSA is worth of serious discussion and consideration. This thesis mainly uses the model regarding the basic unit of interpreting analysis andquality assessment proposed by Professor Cai Xiaohong to analyze one of the author’sfield lecture interpretation with a purpose of proving its guiding significance to QSA ofother field lectures. The author took part in four phases of educational seminars for developing countries, which were hosted by the State Department of Commerce and organized by NortheastNormal University (NENU), undertaking the tasks of four lecture interpretations. Theauthor’s performance helped foreign students master contents effectively; meanwhile, theauthor improved interpreting ability and gathered experience for future work via suchopportunities. But in the course of transcribing, the author concluded key and difficultpoints and found several shortages in aspects of listening, terminology and encyclopedicknowledge. With guidance of interpretative theory, the author did a deep reflection on thetranscription and found that self-assessment is an important approach for improvement ofinterpreting quality, since it enjoys relevant advantages in both respecting the dynamicprocess and operation rather than other-assessment. Therefore, the author took recordedinterpretation of the seminar Decade Review and Prospect on Basic Education CurriculumReform as source material, suggesting that QSA should be speech-oriented anddelivery-oriented, whose process consists of both quantitative and qualitative analysis. This thesis consists of five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction of thesisbackground and features of source text; the second part reviews the process ofinterpretation guided by relevant theories; the third finds specific problems of transcriptionby means of quantitative and qualitative analysis; the fourth part makes QSA according toProfessor Cai’s interpretative theory and puts forward relevant tactics; the last part is aconclusion.
