| This is a reflective report on the author’s own practice in the translation of the novel LostHorizon. During the translation procedure, the first step is to constantly comply eachtranslation principle and systematic translation method with the translation of the novel, aswell as apply all the methods into the author’s translation work. Before the author began totranslate the novel, she did a lot of preparation work as indicated in the report. The purpose ofthe preparation is to get a better understanding of the source text in terms of the writer’smeaning, intention as well as the manner of writing. Then she did the translation according tosome translation criteria. The next step is to review the mistranslation, meanwhile the authorsummarizes the problems that exist in the translation.Based on the process of translation, there comes the summary and reflection on themethods, skills and strategies in translating literary works. Although it is complicated totranslate literary works between two cultural backgrounds, yet some experiences andsolutions have been listed in the thesis. Large numbers of practical examples are picked outand then analyzed, which aims at solving the vocabulary vacancy problem under differentcultural background. Furthermore, the author indicates some corresponding translationstrategies and skills especially to handle with the lexical vacancy under different culturalbackground. |
