With accelerating the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, cultural exchanges should not only go out,but also be imported.Today, with increasingly prosperous cultural exchanges, foreign masterpieces are pouring into China, including foreign classics, celebrity autobiographies and novels, especially autobiographical texts, which let not only Chinese people know about the personal lives of foreign writers, but also promote the cultural exchanges and dissemination worldwide.Biographical texts have the characteristics of authenticity and literariness. In terms of authenticity, the translator needs to reflect the internal logic and emotions in the original work in the target language as much as possible. For literariness,it is necessary to faithfully convey the modifiers and rhetorical devices in the target language to reflect the information of the original text and make readers feel the literary atmosphere. The Solitary Summer is a memoir written by Australian-born British novelist Elizabeth von Arnim, framing individual lives as autobiographical fiction. This text has the characteristics of authenticity and literature. In the source text, there are lots of natural scenery descriptions, which can not only reflect the author’s love for the natural environment, but also play an essential role in promoting the plot, reflecting the author’s character and image. In this translation report, the translation of modifiers related to scenery description is difficult and vital,so it is necessary to discuss the translation strategies of modifiers in the autobiographical text.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, this translation report analyzes and discusses the translation strategies of biographical literature from the the aspects of prenominal modifiers and post-modifiers of nouns. The result shows that prenominal modifiers can be translated through word meaning extension, conversion of part of speech and other strategies, while post-modifiers of nouns can be translated by means of word order adjustment, cutting and combination, which can not only take into account the expression habits of both Chinese and English, but also enable readers to empathize with the authors’ feeling. In addition, the translator also finds that the application of translation theory to solve the translation problems related to the noun modifiers in scenery description can not only make the translation smooth and natural, but also highlight the author’s characteristics and images through the application of the modifiers,so that readers can understand the author’s emotional thoughts and personality based on appreciating the scenery description.Through this translation practice, the translator has mastered the translation strategies and skills of modifiers on scenery description and learned how to apply translation theories to guide scenery description in autobiographical texts. At the same time, the translator has had a deep understanding of the communicative translation theory, thus improving the ability to apply the theory to practice and accumulating some experience for the translation of future autobiographical texts.
