When Xu Shen wrote his famous work”Shuo Wen Jie Zi”, he created fivehundred and forty radicals by analysis of nine thousand three hundred and fifty-threeChinese characters. All these characters are arranged in a great order, for example,characters related to water are classified “radical shui”, characters related to hunt areclassified “radical quan”, characters related to moving are classified “radical shou”.This is a great invention. The saying “Qi jian shou ye” in the preface of “Shuo WenJie Zi” is the key to understand the sequencing of540radicals of Chinesecharacters．The shape similarities sequencing in space shows the rules on thesurface．But sequencing in meaning plays a leading role in the deep structure of thesequencing of540radicals．Meanwhile，the philosophy of Xu Shen also has a greatinfluence on the radical’S sequencing of Chinese characters．The main body is divided into four parts: In the first chapter, the book and theradicals are introduced.“Shuo wen” originally creates five hundred and forty radicalsto arrange more than nine thousands words and expressions under them, reflecting animportant idea of vocabulary system construction of Xu Shen. This book starts from“yi”to “hai”, demonstrating a strong entirety and a systematic thinking. From editionprinciple and system thinking, the radicals of “Shuo wen” reflect the system thoughtof three levels: the entirety principle of starting from “yi”to “hai”, the continuoussemantic system thought of the inner edition order of radical and the semantic systemidea of vocabulary marked by forms and symbols. In the second chapter, the earlysequencing of word order is introduced. The word order was sort in diversity andbased on significance in this period.“Shuo Wen” method is the summit during theQin and Han Dynasties. The last chapter is a conclusion.
